CHAPEL SERVICES
A traditional or contemporary service may be scheduled in either of two chapels on the cemetery's property. Traditionally, a pastor, chaplain or celebrant is selected to conduct the chapel service. Families can include music, flowers, video tributes, military honors (for those that qualify) and picture boards. Public or private visitation can occur in the chapels prior to the service. A hospitality area is also available.
Following the funeral service, the deceased is transported to their final resting place where there is a brief committal ceremony.

A Vintage Touch
The Key Memorial Chapel has hosted funeral services for over a century. It has also been utilized for special ceremonies, business and civic group meetings , and even weddings.
The Key Memorial Chapel, originally called the "Mortuary Chapel" for 85 years, was dedicated on May 1, 1913 (Ascension Day). This structure was constructed in 1911 atop the "public vault," which was built in 1873. The public vault played a very important "storage" role during winter months in an era without mechanized digging equipment but became obsolete at the turn of the 20th century.
Mount Olivet's lot-holders requested a place outside of family homes in which they could "lay out" the deceased for loved ones and friends to pay final respects. This had traditionally been done in the front parlor of private homes. The chapel was a welcomed addition and was heavily used until the middle of the century, at which time funeral homes would become the preferred place to handle wake and memorial services.
