Two opportunities coming in June to train in gravestone repair!
Nationally-known cemetery restoration expert Jonathan Appell will be presenting a gravestone repair workshop on Saturday, June 1st from 9am-3pm here at Mount Olivet. He will give an historic overview on stone types and styles, explain how damage and wear occurs, and will demonstrate how to fix gravestones utilizing some of our monuments in need of help. This is the Maryland stop for John's "48 Cemeteries in 48 States Tour." Free to participate as all are welcome. Dress appropriately and bring a lawn chair if needed.
The following week, our Mount Olivet team under the direction of the Friends of Mount Olivet will show participants our achievements in cleaning and repairing gravestones. They will also share tips of the trade and train participants in the basics with hands-on opportunity to get hands dirty. No RSVP needed, just show up to the Key Chapel by 9am (or come late if you must and look for the crowd around guys in tie-dye shirts!)
