Holiday Decoration Day at Mount Olivet

Saturday, December 10th
              9am-9pm

Mount Olivet Cemetery
Frederick, Maryland

Frederick's Mount Olivet will hold its first ever "HOLIDAY DECORATION DAY" on Saturday, December 9, 2017!

Activities are scheduled throughout the day, and will include the opportunity to decorate the gravesites of loved ones amidst a backdrop of craft and entertainment activities. Come in from the cold after "trimming" your loved-ones grave for a cup of coffee and donut or two.

From 9am-12noon, kids and adults alike can make an ornament for our "Mount Olivet Remembrance Tree" located in the vestibule of the cemetery's Chapel Mausoleum. Custom holiday wreaths and swags (for grave monuments) will be available for sale as well. Refreshments will be available for lot-holders and their families (from 9am-noon).

The beautiful Key Memorial Chapel, built in 1913, will be open from 11am-9pm in celebration of Museums by Candlelight. Mount Olivet historian Chris Haugh will give special "Stories in Stone" lecture presentations in the chapel from 12-1pm and again from 6-7pm. Each will be followed by a special showing of the Frank Capra Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life," starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. The colorized version of the film will be shown in the historic chapel amidst candlelight and holiday decorations with available snacks, refreshments and prize giveaways.

The decorated Key Memorial Chapel may be visited before, and in between, scheduled programming. Good times to visit will be  11am-12noon, and 3-6:00pm.

All events are free, with potential donations and sale proceeds going toward the new Mount Olivet Preservation and Enhancement Fund. (Due to chapel capacity, RSVP's for these lecture/film showings are required, please call (301)662-1164, or email: [email protected])
