Wreaths Across America Day 2021

Saturday, December 18th @ 12noon
Mount Olivet Cemetery
Frederick, Maryland

Volunteers and participants welcome!!!

Rain or shine, our World War II monument in Area EE will be the site of our opening ceremony for Wreaths Across America on Saturday (Dec 18) at 12 noon. All volunteers are welcome to participate as we will be placing over 3,300  wreaths among the cemetery’s 4000 veteran graves.

Parking available at Harry Grove Stadium as we will open a side gate for pedestrian traffic that will bring participants in about 100 yards from the WWII monument. Others  can park within the cemetery up front near the FSK Chapel or back by the Mausoleum Chapel and Administrative Offices.

Info can be gotten at the FSK Chapel before the start of the event. See schematic map below.

COVID-19 Info:
Opening Ceremony begins at 12 noon with a color guard and speakers at the World War II Monument in Area EE. Instructions will be given and followed by placement of wreaths on veteran graves by volunteer participants on hand. We are only assigning a few sections this year to extremely large groups. This event is open to all ages. This is an outdoor event and we ask that those who participate practice common sense social distancing and are respectful in wearing masks if in close quarters with others. (NOTE: If you have major concerns, we recommend you rethink your in-person involvement and perhaps make or purchase a wreath on your own for placement as all of our veterans will likely not get a sponsored wreath.)

Keep in mind that we have over 4,000 vets buried here in Mount Olivet, so not every vet will be a wreath recipient as we will likely be selecting specific areas to cover fully. We will be placing the exact number of wreaths for individual cemetery sections which we call Areas. PLEASE do not take a wreath from one Area, and walk across one of our roadways to place on another Area. Again, we will have the exact number needed for each Area and this will cause us to be short! Thank you.

That being said, we invite those interested in participating (especially those who haven't bought-sponsored wreaths already through WAA) to purchase or make their own wreaths to place on military loved ones and friends if so desired. These additional wreaths would also be appreciated on the graves of other veterans who may be perfect strangers. Placement can be done on Wreaths Across America Day, Saturday, Dec 18th, starting at noon, or any day thereafter....just look for military graves throughout Mount Olivet designated with flaglets. (We will share a list of those uncovered sections here on FB later in the week.)
